Friday night. It was dark and stormy. Actually, it was a very nice night. [livejournal.com profile] mle292 and I had dinner out at the Teahouse. Squeaky arrived home from school for a brief weekend visit.

Saturday. Lounged around for a good chunk of the day, then finished the electrical work for the bath remodel in preparation for the final inspection, which was Tuesday (today). Then we brewed the Scottish Export 80/-.

Sunday. Some EVE Online time for me for more education of the corp. Then dinner at [livejournal.com profile] mle292's Dad's place. He grows Cascade Hops! Oh yes, next weekend we will be picking some. Fresh hops for the next brew.

Monday. Went to the State Fair! Good times. More greasy food, more honey (Honey Lemonade is awesome!). Squeaky headed back to school.

This is week three home, as in not on the road to Cedar Rapids. Next Sunday I will be headed back again. I think I get bored earlier and earlier in the drive. Ugh, that also means I have lots of laundry to do this week. And packing on Sunday. Blah. More beer, don't want to think about work now!

Grand Cru bottling is complete. I fell behind early trying to get the "Grolsch" style ceramic caps on the 16oz bottles, but caught up when I figured that out. All of the bottling gear is now cleaned and rinsed.

The Yeast is doing yeast-like things and expanding. We are waiting on it a little longer before starting the mead brew.

I now have a secondary fermenter that will not see use for 5 or more weeks. This will not do. I am wondering if i want to get another primary, or if i just want to try a single stage. Either way I can get another beer bottled in about 3 weeks, instead of 7 or so.

Decisions, Decisions. And the bigger decision - which kit?

Sitting in Cedar Rapids, having a beer. Thought I would make a post that is not stomped by the character limit of facebook. Yes, I spend too much time there and not enough remember to write in non-professional documents.

Brewing is going well. I am enjoying it. Turns out people like beer. Who knew? The first batch was an Extra Pale Ale. It is pretty much gone now, and I was slacking and had not started anything else. [livejournal.com profile] mle292 helped me pick out a couple of new kits to buy and we started the Grand Cru a while ago. We just moved it to the secondary fermenter before I left to drive down here to Iowa. Next weekend I am going to start the mead. I figure it will be optimal around February.

The bathroom is coming along well. It is almost complete. It really does look amazing. Sometime I will figure out how to use my camera to upload the pictures to my PC. I'd say my Mac, but it is almost out of HD space.

I have to go visit a second client on Thursday (fortunately in the same city), and then the Sales rep wants to go out golfing with a few clients. So much so that he is stopping by the house to pick up my clubs on his way here tomorrow. Seems like a bit much effort to me, but what the heck - free golf.

Things are very busy work wise. Tomorrow is pilot go-live. We have been scrambling to get everything done with the last minute updates and issues. It should be good. The client has made cheat sheets for their fellow employees, and we involved members from each pilot team in UAT, so at least those people know what to expect. We closed out probably a dozen issues over the last two weeks. Most of the remaining bugs are vendor bugs and those have work-arounds, so we are in good shape. I hope to start spending a little less time here once the pilot and Phase II design work have started.

I was talking to a Spacelane Patrol agent yesterday, and he hired a couple of us to go out and dismantle a small slaver ring. Now, being a good state capitalist, I understand the value of inexpensive labor. Or Amarr allies (at the State level) use slaves, although our State never has trafficked in sentients. Sansha slavers raid civilized systems for slaves, making a hefty profit, so I never pass up an opportunity to shut them down. We probably counter-raided a dozen or so sites where they were congregating and took out numerous ships and we confiscated a viral agent they had been threatening to use. We also took out several slave pens and bunkers used by them, rescuing many civilians through our efforts, including some VIPs for which the agent had been tasked with locating. The Sansha slavers will be back, they always are, but as long as there are a few of us good State pilots willing to take them on, our region of space will be safe from them. Plus, there is always a profit to be made in salvaging their destroyed ships.

I waited a while before heading back into CVA space, just in case the Atlas group was pirating in low-sec again. They were not. I made a few rounds in the systems around the outposts and found some nice Sansha rats to rip up. The ship worked admirably, my blasters glowing red from the constant firing on the battleships. In a mere 20 minutes, I racked up about 3 million in bounties and then paid my toll to the outpost and docked for some well earned rest.

I was headed into CVA space for a some quick Sansha rat hunting when several Atlas pilots were sitting on a gate. The first two were busy with security problems so I coasted on through. No doubt alerted by their fellow pirates, the two on the other side of the gate were ready. A HIC and a HAC locked me up quick and warp jammed me, but I was only 11km from the gate. Knowing the two on the other side were already engaged, I fired up my Shield Hardeners and powered back to the gate, locking the targets as I burned the MWD. I locked my targets as I hit the gate. I opted to pass on the test of shields, knowing both HIC and HAC have very high resists and even though my shields were down only about 20%. I jumped back through and warped off to a mid-warp bookmark that I had dropped on my way in. From there I quickly checked to see if there were any ships on my egress gate and seeing none, punched the warp drive. The gate was clear and I jumped immediately through.

The Grand Cru is in the Primary fermenter. In about a week I should be able to put it in the Secondary and get the mead going. I'll need a new secondary fermenter for the mead - a slightly smaller one - the 5 gallon. I also want to get a beer thief to make it easier to get samples for hydrometer readings. Also, I want an immersion chiller - it would be nice to chill it quickly without the use of 20 pounds of ice.

Thursday.
Arrive. Check in. Mark up my pocket guide. Hit a few panels and the party circuit. Signed up for blood donation. Drank at a few parties. Saw the Skepchicks use a bible for a door stop - awesome!

Friday.
Art Show, Dealers, panels, Kelly's reading, Dana's reading, more panels, more parties. Drank lots of water in preparation for bleeding. Parties parties parties. Groping optionalmandatory.

Saturday.
Signing and talked to Lyda, panels, there was real food at some point on Saturday. Bled for a bit; it took 7 minutes, I am getting slow in my old age. 64oz+ of water did not seem to help me bleed faster, might have to try the Scotch treatment next time. Fought a Klingon and only got a flesh wound. More parties. More groping (no, I was the recipient). Emptied the Minicon keg.

Sunday.
Slow day, many people dragging. More panels, more real food, dead dog parties. Horrible horrible movie - The Apple. Good trailers and another great short by Emily Hagins.

Monday.
Check out. Home. Relax. Look at all the Con pics that have been posted.

Anarchy

I downloaded Anarchy Online again last night. I logged into the "free" account I created back in 2005. My paid account has been off for quite a while. I suffered from alt-itis, so I never got that far. I think I had a couple of characters in the 80-100 range, but nothing higher. When I was tired of it, I muled my gear and creds to the the couple of toons on the free account, so they get a nice way to start. Now to remember all of the complexities of AO.

I am awake, after approximately 10.5 hours of sleep. Glorious sleep!

Today I would like to accomplish many things. I will not get to all of them.
Laundry (started!)
Drink Coffee with Baileys (started!)
Put dishes away (done!!!)
Mow the lawn
Golf
Replace the utility tub & faucet
Move three of my cruisers to Nonni
Consider a very good question from MLE - if you are spending all this time learning about PvP in EVE, what are you going to do when you have Alzheimer's and all you can remember is fragments of EVE online?

A doctor that provided abortion services, among thousands of other doctor-like activities, was shot at a church this morning in Kansas. I am guessing the murderer will turn out to be a fundie christian. Other christians will say s/he was not a true christian, but they will not say anything else about their religion.

Started playing the Neo Steam beta - I like it. Not a bad implementation of standard Korean grind-fest. Cutesy graphics, but not quite so cute as Ether Saga. Just cannot understand beating on those cute little critters.

Also tried Warrior Epic. Meh.

Hrm, something up with Neo Steam - not letting me use keyboard commands. I hope that problem goes away with a relog.

Still a good way off from some of the T2 battleships, but my options are open.

I managed to work today, not that it was much of an improvement over laying in bed for 20 hours.

When I got up this morning, I only had a headache. Felt like death warmed over most of the day. Still am not completely recovered, but well on the way.

Oh, and a quick lesson learned - do not try to sleep while very sick with Law and Order: CI and NCIS playing on the TV for about 6 hours. It leads to very fuxxored dreams.
