A good day for brewing

Wow. So much cleaning!

Kegged two beers - Belgian Saison and Belgian Dubbel.
Prepped bottles for bottling a wine.
Started another wine.
Brewed another beer.

Emily had to go shopping twice today to support the brewing lifestyle.

davedujour we have more Primary and Secondary fermenters now. In an effort not to waste any time filling them, I signed up for the Ale Kit of the Month club at Midwest. And as

mle292 mentioned, we also picked up another Mead and a Lager. Lager is currently in the one day room temp cycle before going into the cold dark recess that is the uninsulated tool closet. The Mead is currently occupying the wine primary. We think we are going to put in a proper wine as soon as that moves to the secondary. Hopefully also soon smaller fruit wines will be made.

We bottled the Irish Red last night. Today we will bottle the Hex Nut brown ale. We will also move the lager to the secondary and brew the Ale of the Month - Excelsior Altbier.

Bottling Grand Cru, brewing Mead

Grand Cru bottling is complete. I fell behind early trying to get the "Grolsch" style ceramic caps on the 16oz bottles, but caught up when I figured that out. All of the bottling gear is now cleaned and rinsed.

The Yeast is doing yeast-like things and expanding. We are waiting on it a little longer before starting the mead brew.

I now have a secondary fermenter that will not see use for 5 or more weeks. This will not do. I am wondering if i want to get another primary, or if i just want to try a single stage. Either way I can get another beer bottled in about 3 weeks, instead of 7 or so.

Decisions, Decisions. And the bigger decision - which kit?

Brewing

The Grand Cru is in the Primary fermenter. In about a week I should be able to put it in the Secondary and get the mead going. I'll need a new secondary fermenter for the mead - a slightly smaller one - the 5 gallon. I also want to get a beer thief to make it easier to get samples for hydrometer readings. Also, I want an immersion chiller - it would be nice to chill it quickly without the use of 20 pounds of ice.
